Privacy policy
mealio is a Hutbud product · Last updated September 1, 2026
The short version
mealio stores what it needs to plan your meals and nothing more. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we never see your card number.
What we collect
- Your account. Sign-in is handled by Clerk. We receive your name, email address, and profile photo from the provider you sign in with (such as Google).
- Your meal data. Meal swaps, what you've marked eaten, logged extras, recipe ratings, and boards are stored against your account so your plan is the same on every device — and shared with your household, if you join one.
- Your nutrition profile. If you personalize your targets, the profile (goal, sex, age, height, weight, activity) and the computed targets are stored on your device, not on our servers.
- Billing. Premium subscriptions are processed by Stripe under Hutbud. Stripe handles your payment details; we only ever see that your account is a subscriber.
The AI features
When you generate a recipe, scan one from a photo, analyze an extra, or build a grocery list, the text or image you provide is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce the result, along with your macro targets for that request. Anthropic processes it to answer and does not use it to train models. Recipe photos are not stored by mealio after scanning.
Where your data lives
Account data lives with Clerk, meal data in our database (Airtable), payments with Stripe, and the site runs on Vercel. All of it travels encrypted (HTTPS). We share data with no one else, and we don't sell it to anyone, ever.
Deleting your data
Deleting your account (Manage account → Security → Delete account) removes your sign-in and disconnects your meal data, which we then remove from our database. Nutrition profiles stored on your device are cleared by clearing the site's data in your browser, or uninstalling the app.
Children
mealio is for adults planning their household's meals and isn't directed at children under 13.
